Summer is my favorite season and since it doesn't last long here in the Midwest I try to spend every free moment I have out in the sun. Give me all the summer activities...long days by our pool, lake vacations, back yard barbecues and even the occasional Sunday brunch has to been on a patio! As fun as all of this is, it comes with the harsh elements of sun, chlorine, salt water and humid air. This can really put a beating on our hair! Now that it's the end of August and summer is coming to an end I want to share some tips I use to bring my hair back to life!
Use a scrub cleanser
Summer hair just screams build up. I feel it on most of my clients hair during this season. The chlorine and salt water create build up that will not come out on its own. The Davines Solu Sea Salt Scrub is brand spanking new and it is the best hair detoxifier I have ever used. Crafted from all-natural ingredients, this scrub provides a deep yet delicate cleanse, gently removing impurities and build-up to leaving you with an unbeatably clean result. Use this before your shampoo every other wash!
Prevent Chlorine Damage
We still have a little bit of pool time left so make sure youʼre still protecting your hair! Have you heard stories of a friends hair turning green from chlorine? That really happens! Prevention is key especially if you are a blonde. Dry hair acts like a sponge so wet your hair with tap water before your swim to prevent your hair from absorbing as much chlorine. And as soon as you are done in the water wash your hair to get all the chemicals out!
Wear a hat...I love hat days!
Wearing a hat you protect your hair from the suns UV rays which damages the fragile hair strands while fading your color that you just paid for! But it gets better... it also gives your hair a break from using any heat tools, because who cares whatʼs going on under that hat!
Get a Keratin Treatment
If you havenʼt already... get a Keratin treatment! This is a chemical treatment which smooths and adds shine to eliminate frizzy hair. Depending which treatment you choose the results will last 3–6 months. Over time we start to lose our own natural keratin in our hair. So basically what the keratin treatment does is seal the hair cuticle with a coating of protein to add that back in. By getting this treatment it will allow you to lay off the heat styling and give your hair a break, while looking smooth and shiny!
Use a Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner
The end of summer is hot and muggy. I need everything I can get to help the frizz, so I choose to use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. Davines Love Smoothing is my favorite line, this shampoo and conditioner is meant for frizzy or unruly hair. Creamy soft and foamy with olive extract that gently cleanses and moisturizes while thoroughly smoothing hair.
That's right scrunchies are back and cuter than ever! I have them in pretty much every color possible, the velvet ones are my favorite!! Not only are these super in style right now, but they are so much gentler on your hair than traditional hair bands. You can get a 20 pack on Amazon for under $9!
Deep Conditioning Mask
If you follow all these steps and your ends are still feeling rough from too much summer fun. Let a deep conditioning mask sit on your hair for 10– 15 mins at least once a week. If your hair is in desperate need you can even leave it on over night on your ends. My favorite mask is the Nounou Hair Mask. This mask is made specifically to hydrate, soften, smooth and deeply soothe damaged hair and scalp.
