It's February in Cleveland and the weather is well less than desirable. For me the charm of a White Christmas has long warn off, the gloomy gray skies and icy mornings are just down right depressing at this point. On the bright side spring is just around the corner but if you are anything like me (you know the type that never understood the whole patience thing) you can't wait for spring. We survive these months by planning to jet our way out of the tundra to get some much deserved sunshine and Vitamin D! Of course before you pack your bags let's make sure you know how to protect your hair from all the elements of travel.
Pack Your Own Shampoo and Conditioner
If you know me personally you know how I preach the necessity of using quality shampoo and conditioner. There is no chance those little hotel bottles that are 95% alcohol are going to take care of your hair! Traveling light? No problem, pick up a refillable travel size bottle!
You are probably sick of hearing me talk about dry shampoo, but seriously how does a woman survive with out it? Spend more time on the beach, sipping cocktails or with your friends instead of stuck in your room redoing you hair. You hair will benefit from less thermal heat, not to mention in other countries the shower water contains metallic minerals that can pigment your hair color (especially if you have extensions). The more you wash your hair the more of these potentially harmful elements you are inviting in!
Pack an Oil
Airplanes are incredibly dry. As soon as you get off the plane run some oil through the ends of your hair and make sure to do so continuously as needed. The night before you are going to wash your hair really load your hair up with the oil and leave it over night until you wash in the morning. If you are looking for a great product my personal favorite is Oi Oil.
Protect Your Hair From The Sun
There are a couple ways to do this. I prefer to wear a wide brim hat. This will help protect your color from fading and your skin will thank you as well! However if you are adamant on going under water (I literally shudder when I say that). Then please make sure you are putting in a leave in conditioner in your hair before you go under! The chlorine and salt water is HORRIBLE for your hair! If you have extensions it's even worse since they don't have the natural nutrients from our bodies.
With these 4 easy tips you can enjoy your trip and much needed relaxation with the confidence that when you get back you will not only feel great but still look amazing!
