If you follow my insta feed you probably witnessed every juice I consumed a couple weeks ago. I have had so many people reach out asking me about my cleanse I figured I would share all the details here!
I am no stranger to juice cleanses, for the past few years I have typically done two cleanses a year. Always one in January after the holidays completely destroy my self-control and typically another mid-summer, just to drive my hubby mad ;). Mark always joins me in these cleanses and while most people say it’s sweet, the reality is he is just too competitive of a person to let me complete a challenge without doing it too. Regardless of the reason I am glad he joins me, it helps reduce the temptations and is great for our relationship. After all if he started grilling up a burger mid cleanse he might not live to eat that burger! This time we decided to get our juices from Restore Cold Pressed. This is our second time purchasing a Restore cleanse and most likely the one we will stick with. The juices are all delicious and because they are local for me it saves the hefty shipping costs, which are typically around $50. Here’s a little diary of how I survived my juice cleanse.
Mark and I always like to do a last supper per say. This time our meal of choice was pizza, chicken wings and fries… what can I say I’m a go big or go home type of girl. I do want to point out that we started the cleanse on a Wednesday and had our last supper on Sunday evening. I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing this the night before. I would recommend eating pretty clean at least two days prior to the cleanse so your body doesn’t go in to total shock only drinking 6 juices a day.
Day one is typically the hardest for me. I started my day off with a caffeinated tea, some people are against drinking caffeine during a cleanse. However in the past I have done the BluePrint cleanse which has caffeine in the first juice. It's a personal preference and since I have ZERO intentions of giving up the caffeine after the cleanse I didn’t see the harm in it. Following my tea I drank my first juice on my way to work. I was pretty crazy at work so the day flew by without me really even thinking much about food. I got a little behind on drinking my juices and at 7pm still had two to finish! So I chugged my 5th one and around 9pm started my last one. I’m not going to lie I was pretty disappointed, the last one is a nut milk and I always look forward to this one because it is the most filling! It's almost like a dessert while you’re on the cleanse. Unfortunately they only had one of the normal nut milk that comes with the cleanse left so we had to supplement it for a house strawberry nut milk. Of course being the loving wife I am, I gave Mark the regular nut milk for day one and the flavors in the strawberry version just didn’t mix well for me so I only drank about a 1/4 of it and called it quits. Not long after this we called it a night, much earlier than our typical bedtime. Aside from being exhausted day one actually went pretty smoothly!
I woke up feeling great! I felt so refreshed. My schedule was a little less hectic on Day 2 so I was able to space out the juices properly and drank my first juice around 9 and spaced the rest out every two hours. I felt very clear headed and my energy was the highest it had been in weeks (prior to my holiday sugar binge). I got home around 9pm that night and hung with Mark for a bit before bed. After talking about our days I leaned that our bodies were digesting these juices very differently. I’ll leave that to your imagination 😉
The last day! Wohoo! I’ve almost made it! And I felt sooo good! So rejuvenated and calm. My skin was already glowing and the bloat in my stomach had vanished. I had refrained from working out the days prior to maintain my energy with consuming such a low amount of calories. I was feeling pretty good so I decided to do just do some light yoga. I had the day off so I took Hendrix for a play date with friends, bringing my second juice with me. Leaving the play date I was still feeling great. Of course it was not that easy, slowly but surely things started to go downhill. I blame the quinoa! It all started as I was making Hendrix lunch. It was the leftover quinoa casserole I had made the night before we started the cleanse. Oh my goodness it looked and smelled so good. Miraculously I found the control to not sneak a bite, cracked open my next juice and chugged it! After that I was back to normal and able to get those cheating thoughts out of my mind. It was smooth sailing the rest of the afternoon until I got my daughter off the school bus that afternoon. Wow was she in a mood. I mean seriously you can only be told you’re the meanest person ever so many times before wine becomes a complete necessity. I spent the rest of the evening going back and forth with myself if I could just replace the rest of my juices with wine. I mean technically wine is a juice right?! I stayed strong though… even with my husband taunting me and chanting “end the cleanse” (like I said before it's more competition than support for him). Mark was sooo ready to be done, listing all of the food he wanted to eat the next day. He really wanted a steak, that did not seem tempting to me one bit. I was looking forward to some fresh veggies and maybe some lean meat.

The next morning I woke up feeling great. Mark woke up extra early to make me an egg white omelet before I headed to work and I ate very light the rest of the day. I’d be lying if I said my sugar cravings were completely gone, but they are definitely easier to control now. After the cleanse Mark and I have continued to make healthier food choices. The bloat in my stomach has stayed away and my energy level and mood has been so much better!
Would I recommend this cleanse? Honestly it would depend what you are looking for. If you are looking for instant weight loss from it then no. It’s not going to be some miraculous weight loss solution. The solution is in the aftermath of the cleanse and the follow through. I do believe by cleansing your palate this will set you up for a higher rate of success with maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
