What sets your soul on fire? This is SO different for everyone, what is it for you? This does not just have to be about your career, it can be a passion for traveling, running marathons or creating art... the list goes on and on. Too often we let our own fear of judgment or rejection get in the way of our passion. Our society's mentality is so quick to judge each other and make each other feel guilty for chasing those dreams. Women in particular are guilty of this all the time and I don’t understand why can't everyone see that we CAN have it all! We can be a mom, with a career. A mom that travels. A mom with dreams, goals and the drive to achieve them! Not only is it possible, but when we do all this we are teaching our children that they can do it as well, that being a mother doesn't mean date nights or heaven forbid a night out with friends are over or that the only place they will be traveling to again is to Disney World. We will be showing them that they can live their dreams too!
For me my passion is to make people feel better about themselves inside and out while constantly challenging myself to become a better person along the way! Throughout my whole pregnancy with Hendrix people would ask if I planned to stay home once he was here. I felt like I had to explain myself that I want to work and that I enjoy what I do. I did love my time being home with Hendrix after he was first born, but I had scheduled myself to be back to work within four weeks after his birth. To be honest, I was more than ready to head back to work. I missed my clients and I missed my independence. When I explained this to people you would have thought I had a third eye by some of the looks I got. Here we are over a year later and our kids have survived so far! They are healthy, loving independent and smart children! By doing what makes me happy and inspires me means that on my days off my kids get the best of me, because I have that space to be Nikki, not just momma every second of the day. I plan to continue to challenge myself to grow as a mother, a wife, a friend and in my career.
Maybe what sets your soul on fire IS staying home with your children? How lucky are your children that they get to witness your passion every single day! Maybe you love to write music? Did you know Andy grammar sang on the streets of Santa Monica for years before anyone ever noticed him? Not to mention he only made tips when he played covers, never his own music. Or possibly you want to write novels? J.K. Rowling was rejected by 12 publishers before she was finally picked up by Bloomsbury! Bottom line is you don't need someone else's approval to chase your dreams so stop waiting, ignite that fire and watch it roar!
